5 D / 4 N JAGUAR PHOTO SAFARI / LODGE-BASED
North Pantanal, Paraguay River & Taiama Reserve

This Jaguar Tracking tour takes you to explore the Paraguay River and the 11,200-hectareTaiama Ecological Station. This region has the highest density of jaguar population in the entire Brazilian Pantanal. The Taiama Ecological Station is a federally protected area; it is not open to the public and no tour operator is permitted to take tourists onto the reserve itself. But since the reserve sits on an island in the middle of the river, visitors are free to circumnavigate the reserve in search of the elusive jaguar. Jaguars are visible day and night, we frequently spot them along the river Banks when they come to the river's edge to drink, rest and hunt their favorite pray: caimans & capybaras, and are best spotted between mid-June and mid-November, often from only 20-30 meters away.

This tour offers you the exclusive use of our Jaguar Trackers Floating lodge as your base to explore the region. The Jaguar Trackers floating lodge is a houseboat anchored on the Paraguay River in the vicinity of northern end of the Taiama Reserve. The houseboat is equipped with showers, air-conditioned cabins, and other amenities. During the tour you and your guide will track jaguar in a smaller boat at your own pace, and at the end of each exciting day, you will return to the floating lodge to relax and enjoy the solitude of your natural surroundings. If you're really looking to get off the beaten path, then this trip is perfect for you.

DAY 2: PANTANAL WILDLIFE VIEWING TOURS / OFF THE BEATEN PATH
Early morning walking safari to spot animals and birds, including rheas, marsh deer, armadillos, storks, coatis, capybaras, hyacinth macaws, howler monkeys, and dozens of other animals and birds. Return to the Camp for breakfast. After breakfast take a boat trip along the Paraguay River in search for jaguars, giant river otters, anacondas, tapirs and other wildlife. Today you will spend 6–8 hours on the river looking for jaguars; you will also travel around the Taiama Ecological Station (11,200 hectares), an island located on the Paraguay River. This region is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in Brazil, and it has the highest density of jaguar population in the entire Pantanal. The jaguars frequently hunt caimans by day along the riverbanks. Along the way you will also see other wildlife, including giant river otters, caimans, capybaras, and many bird species. Explore small channels and lakes, where quite often jaguars can be found on the river banks; recent guests have seen several of these huge predators, many of them at very close range for extended periods. Later in the afternoon return to Jaguar Trackers Floating Lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: JAGUAR PHOTO EXPEDITIONS / PARAGUAY RIVER
Morning and afternoon boat trips (you will spend 4–5 hours on the river each time). Travel both up- and downriver from the lodge, exploring a labyrinth of rivers and lakes between the two remote reserves. Here you have great chance of spotting jaguars, many of them at very close range for extended periods, especially from mid-June to mid-November. This area has the highest density of jaguar population in the entire Brazilian Pantanal. You will also see other wildlife, including giant river otters, anacondas, caimans, capybaras, and many bird species. Spend overnight at the Jaguar Tracker floating lodge. You will also take night boat trips to look for jaguars with spotlights. All meals will be served on the houseboat. B, L, D.

Environmentally Sustainable Tourism
We are proud to offer tours that get you “up close” to wildlife while at the same time minimizing our impact on the local flora and fauna. As nature lovers ourselves, we make every effort to follow a responsible code of ecotourism that does not adversely affect the ecosystems we visit. Furthermore, as a local, family-owned tour operator, we are proud that all of our tours benefit the area economy and promote local culture. We stay in local hotels and lodges, frequent local bars and restaurants, and employ local drivers, boat pilots, and nature guides – selected for their expertise about the regional environment and history as well as their language and people skills. On our tours clients have the chance to interact with locals and experience first-hand how they live. Many clients also have the opportunity to participate, if they so choose, in local cultural events – dances, shows, festivals, etc. – and support regional artisans by purchasing locally made crafts and souvenirs.
