Explore Remote Pantanal locations
at our Pantanal Hidden Lodges

Our Pantanal hidden lodges are located deep in the heart of the Pantanal. The lodges themselves are remote and isolated accessed by rough hidden tracks or secluded waterways. Just getting to them is an adventure in itself that will take you through stunning scenery and a variety of ecosystems. The hidden lodges themselves are simple and comfortable, often converted family homes and farms that have a traditional feel to them in harmony with their natural surroundings. What is really spectacular about them is their location, deep in the wilderness, bringing you into and amongst the natural secrets of the Pantanal. You will be able to truly experience the sights and sound of nature around you and explore the diverse scenery on offer. We will be able to identify and get close to a wide variety of wildlife including some of the more elusive inhabitants of the Pantanal as we are the only visitors to these regions apart from a few local pantaneiros and fishermen. The regions where our hidden lodges are located are relatively inaccessible and remote meaning that no other tours visit these areas where the wildlife has little contact with human beings. Due to the distance of our lodges from the main roads and routes into the Pantanal our days are necessarily active and demanding to reach our hidden lodges and make the most of the beautiful areas they are situated in. However our hidden lodge tours also allow time and space to appreciate the tranquility of the areas we visit so that you can choose between a variety of explorational safaris and activities or some relaxation and peace spent enjoying the natural environment and the proximity of nature. If you really want to get to know and understand the riches the Pantanal has to offer then this is the ideal way to discover the beauty and secrets haboured within of the region.

ACCOMODATIONS:

POUSADA TAMANDUA
This hidden lodge is truly off the beaten track situated in the very heart of the Pantanal. The journey to this lodge is an adventure in itself and once you are there you will really feel that you are in the wilderness of the Pantanal far from the outside world. Here you will genuinely feel part of the region and be able to soak up the stunning views, colours, sights and sounds that make the Pantanal such a rich natural area. Our lodge has been passed though generations of the same family for the past 125 years but has only recently opened its doors to tourism. As such it is a charming old style family house whilst catering to all our needs and exclusive to our tours when visiting. Originally a fishing lodge and set on the banks of the Rio São Lourenço its main feature is its isolated untouched section of river with its many bays and inlets to be explored. Along the river banks there are huge numbers of caiman as well as capybara and monkeys whilst every turn in the river opens up a sandbank hosting a variety of colourful birds. The isolation of this part of the river means that wildlife is relatively undisturbed and feels unthreatened by our presence allowing us to get relatively close. We also explore many of the smaller bays and inlets where we can see the amazing Victoria Regis giant water lilies and float down narrow tributaries listening to the sounds of nature and keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife in the trees and on the river banks. There are also expeditions out across the lodges land by horse and foot as well as nocturnal trips on land and river in search of nighttime activity. If you are also after a bit of relaxation and making the most of the tranquility of the region then you will be in the right place. The view from the lodge is truly spectacular and if you want to get a feel for the wide expanse of the Pantanal then this is the right place. Whether you are watching the early morning mists rise whilst keeping an eye out for visiting macaws, enjoying a peaceful afternoon by the swimming pool watching a jabiru stork pick through the grasses, admiring a stunning sunset sweep across the horizon or star gazing whilst alert for nocturnal visitors wandering by this is sure to be an unforgettable experience.

POUSADA DAS ARARAS
Our second hidden lodge is set amongst a completely different ecosystem. This lodge is also located along the banks of a river, the narrow Rio Correntes a tributary of the Rio Piquiri which forms the border between the two states of the Pantanal. However the scenery and vegetation are completely different here attracting a different mixture of animals and birds. The ecosystems around this hidden lodge are swampland filled with the beautiful Buriti palm trees. This gives a more open feel to the riverbanks and attracts a fascinating collection of wildlife. Here we can spot otters, tapirs and maybe even a jaguar but are sure to see the many macaws, parrots and toucans that are attracted by these vast stands of palm trees. As such it is a beautiful location to observe and capture the brilliant colours and entertaining array of sounds of the birds as they move about the open palm trees and we spend time exploring the many bays and inlets around the palms off the main river. A truly beautiful ecosystem that contrasts strongly with any others we have encountered so far. Our lodge is originally a fishing retreat sited near the riverbank and has a collection of varandas on stilts above the river a little distance away from where you can enjoy the tranquility of the river and spend a peaceful evening listening to the sounds of nature and watching the activity of the rivers inhabitants. This lodge provides a different environment for appreciating the nature around you as well as the peacefulness of the Pantanal and its vast tracts of elegant palm trees set in open waters hosting a stunning variety of brightly coloured birds makes this a beautiful contrast and addition to the wonders of the Pantanal that you will have already witnessed.
