Our staff truly sets us apart from other local
outfitters. With Ecoexplorer, adventure tours are guaranteed
to include a respected local naturalist, who is committed
to giving you outstanding service and the trip of your life.
To increase your overall educational opportunities, the
ECOEXPLORER management carefully selects only highly qualified
local naturalists and outdoors people. Our guides are compassionate,
knowledgeable, and experienced naturalists. They provide
information on birds, natural history, botany, animal behavior,
and conservation in general. All guides employed by the
company or contracted through associates are qualified and
accredited in their particular area. Furthermore, all of
them are first-aid trained. We can also arrange qualified
staff for special interests. We have guides fluent in English,
German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Japanese, Hebrew, Italian,
and Portuguese.
Our multilingual guides lead each expedition from operational
bases in Cuiabá in the north Pantanal and Campo Grande
in the south Pantanal. Guides bring along all the equipment
necessary for an ideal expedition including binoculars,
telescope, spotlights for night viewing and the appropriate
bird, mammal, and reptile field guides. In addition, we
offer each of our participants a personal checklist featuring
the local Brazilian, common English and Latin names for
the wildlife encountered during the trip. We intend to help
participants not only enjoy and keep track of all they see,
but also to become more fully informed about the animals
and their behavior.

Carlos
Carlos
has been guiding for his whole life, raised in the Peruvian
Amazon where his father was also a guide, Carlos first led
tours around the jungle area of Iquitos. However on visiting
Brazil the country captured his heart and since then has
guided throughout the country as well as in the Pantanal
region of Bolivia and the Esteros del Iberá wetlands
of Argentina. For the past 15 years he has based himself
in the Pantanal, running tours throughout this area and
in doing so acquiring a thorough comprehension of the region
and its people. His fascination with and knowledge of the
flora and fauna of the region combined with his energy,
good humour and enthusiasm for his work make him a highly
sort after guide. He works with and supports several community
and social projects in the Pantanal and Amazon regions and
is a keen defender of the environments in which he works.
Speaking English, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian Carlos
is completely involved in every trip he runs, guiding wherever
possible and bringing his 5 year old son Matheus along on
the family trips to help him with the wildlife spotting!
Flávio
Flávio
comes from an Indian tribe and was raised in the Amazon.
He came to the Pantanal 15 years ago and after 5 years of
formal training has been guiding here for the past 10 years.
He speaks English in addition to Portuguese and takes great
pleasure in being able to share his understanding of the
native wildlife and the local customs of his home. His familiarity
with the behaviour and habits of the local birds and mammals
make him an incredible source of information and an ideal
guide for locating some of the Pantanals more elusive inhabitants.
His ability to spot animals and identify them by their call
make him a huge asset to any tour into the Pantanal.
Elder
Elder is originally from Sao Paulo where he studied and
gained a deep understanding of the history and cultures
of Brazil. He started off his guiding career in Florianopolis
on Brazils Atlantic coast but after discovering the Pantanal
has spent the past 15 years working as a wildlife guide
in the region and is now studying for a degree in biology.
Elder can therefore offer not just an insight into the wildlife
and cultures of the Pantanal but of Brazil as a whole making
any trip with him fascinating. Elder speaks English in addition
to Portuguese.
Rosie
Rosie has worked in England as a travel consultant, managed
campsites in Europe and worked as an overland tour guide
in South America for the past 3 years. She therefore has
a long experience working in tourism and an in-depth knowledge
of South America. She speaks English, Portuguese, Spanish
and French. Having traveled extensively throughout the Pantanal
both as a tourist and a guide she has developed a great
passion for the region and now manages the sales and promotional
side of Pantanal Ecoexplorer working closely with Carlos
in the creation of each tour.
