| CUSTOM DESIGNED AND GUIDED PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP IN PANTANAL |
|
The Pantanal is a huge wilderness region of swamps and marshes - wetlands created by the seasonal flooding of the river Paraguai and its many tributaries. The ecosystem is home to a known 3,500 species of plants, as well as over 1000 birds, 400 species of fish, around 300 species of mammals, and 480 species of reptiles, including the caiman, a species closely related to the alligator, of which there are an estimated 10 million. The Pantanal is a natural home for the Hyacinth Macaw. Other threatened species abundant in the Pantanal include the Jaguar, Caiman, Maned Wolf, Bush Dog, Giant Otter, Giant Armadillo, Capybara, Jabiru and Brazilian Tapir.
At Pantanal Ecoexplorer, we understand the special needs of wildlife photographers. We know that you need to get close enough to the wildlife to get full frame photographs whenever possible. We understand that you may want to spend a considerably longer time with a subject to get the kind of special behavior photographs that have much more value and interest. We will strive to get you in position to photograph animals with the light at the proper angle. We approach wildlife slowly with the goal of causing them minimal stress and , consequently, providing you with extended photographic opportunities. The sheer abundance and diversity of wildlife and the unique features of the landscape make this region a haven for nature photographers. Let us design a photography tour for you to give you the best opportunity to accomplish your stated goals.
Pantanal Ecoexplorer offers a range of tailor-made photography tours from one to 45 days. We are specialists in the Pantanal wetlands of Brazil, but also have intimate knowledge of other Brazilian bird & wildlife rich destinations and conduct tours to the Alta Floresta region, the Atlantic forest, Emas National Park, Serra das Currupiras, Chapada dos Guimaraes, the Iguazu National Park, and the Rio Negro in Manaus. In general we do not run scheduled tours, and costs depend on the tailored itinerary agreed and the number of people on the tour. The minimum number of passengers to begin a tour is 2 and singles are encouraged to join an existing party. Departures can be any day of the week subject to availability.
The largest advantage we offer is our local expert guides. Generally your group (and only your group) will be paired with one guide for the entire trip. Our guides give you the freedom to spend more time in the field than just the explorations offered by the lodges, which tend to be repetitive, noisy, and crowded. Having your own personal guide allows you to go to remote locations where most tours do not go. This gives you the best experience and most personalized tour available.
All of our tours are conducted with modern, high clearance vehicles that can comfortably seat 4-8 passengers. We select our vehicles with consideration given to large windows that can be rolled down for maximum wildlife viewing and photography. The vehicles also have a 12v connection for charging camera batteries and other equipment.
The lodges and fazendas we partner with have been specifically chosen for their excellent location, great birdlife viewing, comfortable facilities and quality of meals and service. The houseboat we use for jaguar photography at Taiama Ecological Reserve represents an unparalleled option for comfort, convenience and efficient use of your time in a remote location. Shared facilities are only used when there is no alternative, and such exceptions are clearly noted.
We have tours available throughout the year departing from Cuiaba, Mato Grosso. We can ‘design’ a tour to fit in with your plans and requirements and will be happy to discuss alternatives with you. Whatever your budget and preferences, we will have a suitable option for you. Email info@pantanalecoexplorer.com.br for tour availability, itineraries and ideas.

Testimonials from a few friends
PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR - AUGUST 2010
"Carlos Grandez is best described as a whirlwind of energy and activity directed at making your tour the best that it can be. His carefully chosen Pantanal Ecoexplorer team backs him up by operating with the same philosophy and energy to serve their clients. Since 2008 I have toured with Carlos for a total of about nine weeks. He has always been attentive to my special needs as a wildlife photographer. I have a ton of gear to transport for starters and Carlos is always mindful of this and does his best to see to it that I and my gear arrive safely and in good working order. I not only want to see wildlife. I want the subject approached in such a way that we don't disturb it. I need to spend time with the subject, not just for stunning portraits but also to document behavior.
In my quest to photograph the jaguar I have had many memorable encounters with them on tour with Pantanal Ecoexplorer. In 2008 on my first day on the Cuiba River we encountered a huge male jaguar near his kill. I was able to photograph this extraordinary animal for three hours in many different poses. This year (2010) I made five trips to the Taiama Ecological Reserve with Carlos and saw eight jaguars. These sightings included observing a courting pair of jaguars and a female hunting capybara completely out in the open on a beach. We also observed and photographed a male jaguar on the Guapare River obviously fat from feeding on a recent kill. One of the most important keys to finding jaguars is to hire boatmen who have a total familiarity with the river and have proven their ability to do this extremely difficult spotting. Carlos, a keen spotter himself, always chooses boatmen with this skill set in mind.
I can say very truthfully that if you want value and the best chance of accomplishing your mission with nature give Pantanal Ecoexplorer a try. The proof of my experience is in the photo gallery available for you to browse."
I have also had the opportunity to observe Carlos' interactions with other clients. He attends to clients as if his business depends on it, which it does, but also out of a genuine and deep personal concern that the client has the experience of nature that they are looking for.

PANTANAL WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY - DEZEMBER 2009
Dear Carlos,
I am writing to tell you how happy we were with the Pantanal tour you organized and led. Every day on this tour was a unique, unforgettable, and exciting experience for all of us. You opened our eyes on the spectacular beauty of this remote region and helped us learn about its history, people and nature. Seeing and photographing a jaguar on the first day, up-close and personal, was an extra special treat. I have done many tours in different parts of the world and worked with many guides. You made this trip very special and memorable. Thank you very much for the attention to every detail
and every need and for your humor, charm and professionalism.
Best,
